Sensei Oscar

Sensei Oscar’s judo career started at the age of 3 years with Sensei Joe. He was a hard task master on and off the mat, and discipline was high at all times. At 13 years old, Oscar got into the provincial team, and remained in the provincial team until he retired from competitive judo at the age of 36.
Oscar started coaching at the age of 14 at the Salvation Army Boys Home. He served an apprenticeship under Sensei Joe`s until he thought Oscar could go it alone!
Oscar has been coaching for the past 34 years. He has coached all teams in SA from junior boys and girls, to Protea teams, to preparing players for the Olympics.

Oscar is an outdoor enthusiast, and is a long standing member of the Bushveld Conservation Bureau. Oscar loves being in nature, trout fishing, spear-fishing and diving.


Sensei Josie

Sensei Josie has been on the mat for 24 years and coaching for 17. She has been at the head of the provincial girls and ladies teams for about 15 years. In 2010 all the girl’s teams at the national open championships took gold.
Josie coaches the little judokas from 3 years old upwards. Josie is a 2nd Dan and will be attempting her 3rd Dan in December.
Josie is a long standing member of Rand Athletics Club, swims the Midmar Mile, and is a mountain bike enthusiast. Oscar & Josie’s daughter Syke is a SA closed and open Judo gold medalist.
